Using Logos with Your Mobile Ed Courses Just Got a Lot Easier

mobile ed easter course

Mobile Ed’s new Activities resource gives you two new ways to experience our courses. If you’re the kind of Mobile Ed student who likes to simply sit back and watch through the videos and skim the transcripts, we’ve streamlined that process for you by getting some things (like screencasts, guides, and tools) out of your way so you can focus on the course content. But if you like to click on every link, dig into the software, and actively work through a course’s ideas, the Activities resource will be a great option for you. It’s free and has been included for the first time with our Easter compilation course: NT156 Understanding Easter: The Significance of the Resurrection.

What is it?

Activities reside in a separate resource that comes with every new Mobile Ed course. It’s a place to actively engage with the course’s content. Watch this video to see what it looks like:

With that overview in mind, let’s look at how the Activities resource will enhance your learning process when working through a course.

Guides and Tools

We’ve moved the Guides and Tools section at the end of course segments out of the transcripts and into the new Activities resource. We’ve also added some context for why we’ve chosen to highlight each guide or tool. For example, if you were exploring the concept of justification in a course on Romans, which of the following would be more helpful?

  • Romans 4—Passage Guide (link)
  • Justification—Topic Guide (link)

or

Justification is a biblical concept. Explore the following passage on justification:

  • Romans 4—Passage Guide (link)
  • Explore the topic of justification:
    • Justification—Topic Guide (link)

By explaining why we included those Passage Guide and Topic Guide links, you know exactly what you’ll get out of furthering your study with Logos. With the Activities resource, we’ve made our links to guides and tools even more helpful by showing how they relate to the course material at hand. Plus, at the end of each Guides and Tools section there is a place to record what you learned during your exploration. Writing it down is a great way to commit newly acquired knowledge to memory.

Challenges

The more you understand how to use Logos, the more you’ll get out of your Mobile Ed course. In the past, Mobile Ed courses included screencasts to show you how to use Logos in your study. The Activities resource still includes video tutorials, but they are shorter, more general, and focused on learning a specific feature. They chart a clear course for incorporating Logos into your Mobile Ed study. You can find these video tutorials in the Help section of Challenge activities. Here’s what one of those sections looks like:

Challenge: Exploring the Significance of Covenants

Dr. Moo discusses the significance of covenants. Try to find all the occurrences of “covenant” in the NT. Save them as a Passage List.

Next, create a Passage List visual filter to examine the results. Use the Context menu to research background data.

For many users, performing a simple search is a reachable goal, as is saving search results to a Passage List. Creating a Passage List visual filter may be a little more fringe, and people may not know offhand what the Context menu is. If you find yourself struggling with anything like this, there is help available. In this example, there are two video tutorials and a link to the Help file in Logos. In other cases, help might consist of links to a resource opened to a relevant article.

Help from Resources and Tutorials:

      • Performing a Bible Search— Video
      • Creating a Passage List Visual Filter—Video
      • Using the Context Menu—Logos Help

The Help section is your toolbox for completing the challenge. It’s expandable and collapsible, so if you’d like to figure out how to complete the challenge without help, you have that option.

Reflect

The Reflect section gives you some food for thought on course themes and on what you’ve gotten out of your time exploring in Logos. There is a text entry box after each question. Type as much as you’d like! Here’s an example of a Reflect section:

Reflect

In light of your search above, have you learned anything new about covenants?

What is especially significant about Jesus making a new covenant in his own blood?

Use the space below to record other insights you have gained so far in the course.

Connect

After reflecting, bouncing your insights off of other people can be a great learning exercise. Dialoging lets you test your theories and view subjects from other perspectives. So, periodically, you’ll be encouraged to do this by using the Faithlife groups we’ve created for each Mobile Ed course. Links like the one below will remind you that you have an outlet to engage with others.

Connect

Interact with others who have been studying this course. Begin a discussion on something that has made an impression on you, or weigh in on a discussion already underway in the NT156 Faithlife group.

Quizzes and Exams

You can still find links to quizzes and exams in the course transcript, but now you can find them in the Activities resource, too. Since they are an active learning component— something you do—it’s helpful to have them accessible from the resource that emphasizes active learning.

Final Reflection

As a final way to bring your thoughts about the course into the forefront of your mind, there is space to reflect on the main takeaways.

While there won’t always be an activity in every segment, there is a lot to do, explore, and process. We hope that this new resource will help you focus your study for your Mobile Ed courses and increase your Logos skills.
