Logos 4: Quickly Open a Dictionary

While reading books as a boy, I constantly came to words I didn’t understand. When I asked my parents or teachers for help, the standard reply was, "Look up the word in a dictionary." And you know the rest, ". . . because if I told you the answer you wouldn’t learn anything for yourself."

You probably have similar memories. The truth is, as adults we still need to look up words in a dictionary. You’ll be happy to know Logos makes that process very simple.

As you come to English words in a Bible, commentary, devotional, or most any Logos resource, simply double click the word. Logos will then open the first prioritized dictionary it finds with an entry for your word! The double click is the shortcut for looking up your word.

To set the book that normally opens:

• Open the Library
• Click Prioritize
• Drag over from the left, an English dictionary or Bible dictionary to the Prefer these resources list on the right

You can prioritize as many dictionaries as you want, just make sure your favorite is the first dictionary in the list.

For example, prioritize Easton’s Bible Dictionary and then double click Barnabas in Acts 4.36. Easton’s immediately opens to the article for Barnabas!
