How to Locate Where Jesus Speaks a Specific Word

A Logos user contacted me with the following scenario:

I’m studying Matthew 4:17 where Jesus says “the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” How can I locate other verses where Jesus is speaking about the kingdom?

One answer to the question is to create an intersection search looking for verses containing a specific Greek lemma within reported speech in which Jesus is the speaker.

Wow! That’s a mouthful; so let’s break it down:

• Open an English Bible with the interlinear option such as the NKJV (A)
• Navigate to a passage in which Jesus speaks of the kingdom such as Matthew 4:17 (B)
• Right click on the word kingdom (C)
• Select from the right side of the context menu the Greek lemma (the one with the ring icon) (D)
• Select from the left side of the context menu Search this resource (E)

• Place a space after the search query and type the word INTERSECTS followed by another space (F)

• Right click on the word kingdom again (G)
• Select from the right side of the context menu Jesus SPEAKER (H)
• Select from the left side of the context menu Search this resource (I)

• • Right click on the selected (highlighted) search query in the second search panel (J)
  • Select Copy (K)

• • • Right click at the end of the search in the first search panel (L)
    • Select Paste (M)

• • • Press the Enter key to generate the search results
    • Click Aligned as the view for the search results (N)

You are now looking at all the verses in the Bible where the software developers have tagged reported speech in which the Greek lemma for kingdom occurs and Jesus is the speaker! (O)

To make life just a bit easier, here is the search string you can copy/paste into a search panel:

<Lemma = lbs/el/βασιλεία> INTERSECTS {Speaker <Person Jesus>}
