A college student contacted me with the following scenario:
I’m taking a homiletics course and need to find the Greek words translated “preach” in the New Testament. How can this be accomplished in Logos?
I love questions like this because the answer is in the Logos wheelhouse!
Take a swing at this:
- Choose Guides | Word Guides | Greek Words (A)
- Type the word preach in the Word box (B)
- Press the Enter key to generate a report
- Use these guidelines as you work with the ring:
- The ring is based on your preferred Bible (C)
- The English word for which the report is generated is in the center of the ring (D)
- The number of occurrences of the English word in the New Testament of your preferred Bible is to the left of the spark graph (E)
- The various Greek words translated with the English word are around the ring (F)
Click a Greek word outside the ring (G) to see where that Greek word is translated with the English word (H)
Click the Greek lemma under the ring (I) to generate a Bible Word Study for that lemma (J)
As you can tell, the key to this study task is to build and examine a report for each Greek word translated preach. After a thorough examination of all the Greek words, we’ll have a pretty good grasp of the New Testament meaning of preaching.
We could, of course, open the Hebrew Words section to research Hebrew words in the Old Testament.
These two Guide sections, Hebrew Words and Greek Words, are great tools for investigating words/topics like:
- Worship
- Forgiveness
- Love
- Patience
- Or pretty much any word you like!
