How to Create a Lectionary Calendar Using Favorites in Logos

At a recent Camp Logos I was explaining how to use Favorites as an electronic filing cabinet and preaching calendar. A pastor from a liturgical tradition excitedly responded, I get it! I can use Favorites as my lectionary calendar to save things as I do advance preparation.

He is 100% correct. Since then I’ve received several emails asking how to set up a lectionary calendar in Favorites so I’ll share those steps with you today.

  • Open the lectionary you use such as Revised Commentary Lectionary (A)
  • Chose the panel menu on the lectionary (B)
  • Select Show table of contents (C)

1

The goal of this exercise is to replicate this table of contents (D) in Favorites and here’s how to do it:

2-2

  • Choose Tools | Favorites
  • Click New Folder on the Favorites panel (E)
  • Name the folder Lectionary (F)

3

  • Click New Folder again
  • Name the folder 2016-2017 (Year A) (or whatever the name of the year is in the lectionary’s table of contents you’re using) (G)

4-1

  • Drag this folder dropping it on top of the Lectionary folder so that you have a folder within a folder (H)

5-1

  • Click New Folder again
  • Name the folder Advent (or whatever the name is in the lectionary’s table of contents you’re using) (I)
  • Drag this folder dropping it on top of the 2016-2017 (Year A) folder (J)

6

  • Click New Folder again
  • Name the folder First Sunday of Advent (or whatever the name is in the lectionary’s table of contents you’re using) (K)
  • Drag this folder dropping it on top of the Advent  folder (L)

7

  • Continue this process until you have completely replicated the lectionary’s table of contents (M) in the Favorites panel (N

8-2

Now as you conduct research, drag the tabs of panels housing resources, Guides, Tools, or Documents dropping them on the appropriate Sunday’s folders. You can even drag Layouts from the Layouts menu into folders. (O)

9-1

Also, you could place links to websites in folders by dragging the URL from your web browser. In addition, drag links to files on your computer (Word docs, PowerPoint slideshows, etc.) placing them in the correct folders.

In essence your Favorites panel becomes your electronic filing cabinet saving links to important places! Then when you’re ready to return to those places, don’t start your research from scratch. Instead return to Favorites and click a link in a folder to jump right to that spot!
