How to Create Collections Based on Publication Date

A Logos user recently emailed me several questions related to searching journals. One of his questions, in essence, was this:

Is there a way to create a collection of journals based on publication date so that I can focus on recent scholarship?

Great question! And the answer shows the versatility of Logos and at the same time, I’ll think you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to accomplish.

So let’s create a collection of journals with a publication date after 2010:

  • Choose Tools | Collections
  • Name the collection
  • Begin by typing this text in the Rule box: type:journal  which lists in the Resulting Collection area all of your journals
  • Add this text to the Rule box: AND pubdate:>2010  which limits the journals to only those published after 2010

If you’d like to also include journals published in 2010 then add the equals sign after the greater than sign which would look like this: type:journal AND pubdate:>=2010

As you can probably imagine, there’s great flexibly with the publication date Rule.

For example:

  • pubdate:<2015 includes resources published before 2015
  • pubdate:<=2015 includes resources published in and before 2015
  • (pubdate:>2010 AND pubdate:<2015) includes resources published in 2011,2012,2013, and 2014
