Aliens, UFOs, and the Bible: Should Christians Study the Unseen Realm?

Should christians study about ufos in the bible?

Should Christians study fringe topics like UFOs and the Bible and whether aliens exist?

The existence of UFOs has topped news headlines over the past few weeks, generating quite the buzz, primarily in response to the Pentagon’s soon-to-be-released report to the public (as early as June 2021) laying out what it knows about UAPs (unidentified aerial phenomena—military-speak for UFOs).

Both CNN and 60 Minutes have recently done segments on UFOs, and sites like TGC are digging in on this topic from a Christian perspective. Though a hugely popular subject in the secular world, this topic leaves many Christians scratching their heads.

How should we respond?

UFOs and the Bible

Biblical scholar Michael Heiser (PhD in Hebrew Bible and Semitic languages and MA in Ancient History and Hebrew Studies) has spent decades studying UFOs and the Bible and is frequently asked whether he thinks UFOs exist. Though he acknowledges the thousands of reports of flying objects, he says the critical question for Christians is how to process that information. “This takes us right into the unseen world, of angels and demons and gods and God himself—biblical stuff . . . the spiritual world,” says Heiser. He posits there is a significant intersection between the topic of UFOs and biblical theology because people want to know what the truth is—who they are, why they are here, and whether God exists.

In his documentary Aliens & Demons: Evidence of an Unseen Realm, Dr. Heiser offers an explanation for otherworldly experiences through a theologically sound Christian lens.
