Free This Month: Commentary on Mark’s Gospel from a World-Class Scholar

Looking for an immensely practical commentary—one that helps you see God’s Word more clearly?

November’s free book, by world-class scholar R. T. France, is for you.

Working from his own translation of the Greek text and culling from research into the world of first-century Israel, France provides an extensive introduction to Mark’s Gospel, followed by insightful section and verse commentary.

You’ll study Mark as a drama in three acts and explore two central themes of this powerful narrative of Jesus’ life—the nature of Christ and the role of discipleship.

The Bible Today says this about November’s free book:

This massive commentary on the Greek text of Mark comes from the pen of an eminent Oxford scholar and British evangelical. . . . The commentary itself is detailed and penetrating. . . . Of particular value are France’s detailed comments on the text of Mark, his extensive bibliography, and his judicious interpretation of Mark’s theology.

Dig into a “mine of information,” according to the Journal of Theological Studies, including an unexpectedly interesting window into Christianity’s character in Asia Minor during the second half of the first century.

The church in Corinth was struggling with some pretty relatable issues—topics like marriage and divorce, gender roles, and prophecy that are still heated debates today. Research the context and glean applicable insights in The First Epistle to the Corinthians (NIGTC).

Craig L. Blomberg of Denver Seminary calls it “one of the most detailed, widely ranging, and exegetically compelling commentaries ever written on any book in the Bible.”

  1. Could you PLEASE put a Back Button in this software?? It is a button that takes you back to the previous screen set-up no matter what you have up on the screen. This is the only program I have ever seen that doesn’t have one!! And its the most expensive software I have ever seen. Also, could you please add a real King James Bible, 1769 edition, with verse formatting, not paragraph?? Its the number one selling Bible in the English speaking world. How could it now be included in a Bible software program?? Thank you. Note to others wanting to help me find the KJV in Logos. I already own everything they have in that category. Logos does not have a real KJV available at any price. What they have are later revisions of the KJV (aka AV). Thanks for listening! Pastor James Woodley

  2. George Drew says:

Hi, I agree with Pastor James. I cannot find a way to ‘go back’ – very frustrating and a major flaw in this otherwise extremely useful software,
    Kind regards, George

    • Karen Engle says:

Hi George! Thank you for your note. I’ll pass on what you and Pastor James suggested to the team. Thank you! Best, Karen
