5 Reasons You’ll Love the New Logos 8 Libraries

For the past several months, my team and I have had the pleasure of building the brand-new Logos 8 libraries.

We’re thrilled with how customers are responding. One loved the new libraries so much she bought four—“more than ever for any new Logos release,” she said.

So what’s new to the Logos 8 libraries?

That’s what I describe below, focusing my comments on significant changes in the Standard libraries. We’ll be covering denomination-specific libraries in a future post.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Explore all Logos 8 base packages to see everything that’s new.

New additions

We brought some resources back into the Standard line (the New American Commentary series is a standout) and welcomed brand-new resources in for the first time.

CSB Study Bible

The CSB Study Bible offers the award-winning Holman study system, which includes over 15,000 study notes, tools, word studies, and articles from respected Bible scholars. The CSB Study Bible represents the translation work of more than a hundred scholars who have devoted their lives to living and teaching Scripture, and who represent different denominations and diverse backgrounds.

The note contributors reflect a broad sampling of evangelical scholars whose ministries are based in seminaries, colleges, and churches. They have sought a balanced approach on controversial issues, and each note and essay has been poured over by a team of theological editors.

The New American Commentary Series

NAC makes its return to the Standard libraries with Logos 8! Based on the NIV translation and formatted for Logos Bible Software, The New American Commentary series brings the best of contemporary evangelical scholarship to the task of serious exegetical and theological exposition of the Word.

Since a commentary is a fundamental tool for expositors, teachers, and professors, the New American Commentary focuses on communicating the theological structure and content of each biblical book. The writers illuminate both the historical meaning and contemporary significance of Holy Scripture.

Patrologiae Cursus Completus, Series Graeca, Part 1 (vols. 1–18)

The volumes of Jacques Paul Migne’s Patrologia Cursus Completus, Series Graeca form the largest collection ever published of the extant writings of the ante-Nicene Greek Fathers of the early Church—serving not only as the translation base for Philip Schaff’s Early Church Fathers, but also as the bedrock of theological and historical studies of the early Church.

The first piece of the Logos edition of the Patrologia Graeca represents the first 18 volumes (20 volumes in print) of the entire 161-volume set, roughly covering the ante-Nicene Fathers (pre-fourth century, prior to the epoch-marking Council of Nicaea). These volumes include the writings of the Apostolic Fathers, the post-Apostolic Fathers, apologists, and other ante-Nicene Fathers.

These volumes are not facsimile editions of page scans; they are full-blown, full-text Logos resources. Each volume of the Patrologia Graeca is navigable by page number or column number (the primary method of citation of the Patrologia Graeca), and linked in many Logos books.

New International Commentary on the Old and New Testaments (NICOT/NICNT) (48 vols.)

This massive collection combines The New International Commentary on the Old Testament and The New International Commentary on the New Testament to provide an exposition of Scripture that is thorough and abreast of modern scholarship, yet at the same time loyal to Scripture as the infallible Word of God. This conviction is shared by all the series contributors and defines its goals and execution.

This decades-long project has become recognized by scholars, pastors, and serious Bible students as a critical yet orthodox commentary marked by solid biblical scholarship within the evangelical Protestant tradition. The New International Commentary on the Old Testament and The New International Commentary on the New Testament serve as authoritative scriptural guides, bridging the cultural gap between today’s world and the Bible’s. Each volume in the NICOT and the NICNT aims to help us hear God’s word as clearly as possible.

Available in: Collector’s Edition.

Whether you’re a layperson looking to quickly dive into the Bible for answers or a seminary professor wanting a breadth and depth of resources, the Logos 8 libraries cover every base so you can do better Bible study wherever you are.
