The Meaning of Multiple Rings in a Bible Word Study

I recently received the following scenario from a Logos user:

I’m studying a Greek word that is translated “walk” as in Ephesians 4:1. When I generate a Bible Word Study report for the Greek lemma I see all the ways the lemma is translated in my Bible. When I rest the cursor on one of the translations I see another ring. What’s the significance of this second ring?

Again another great question from a fellow Logos user. Let’s go through this scenario and we’ll discover what she’s referring to:

  • Open an English Bible with the interlinear option to a passage with the word walk such as the NASB to Ephesians 4:1 (A)
  • Right click on the word walk (B)
  • Select from the right side of the Context menu the Greek lemma (the lemma is the dictionary form of the Greek word translated walk and is the item with the ring icon) (C)
  • Select from the left side of the Context menu Bible Word Study (D)

  • Expand the Translation section in Bible Word Study (E)
  • Notice the Greek lemma in the center of the ring (F)
  • Notice around the ring all the ways this Greek lemma is translated in the Bible you right clicked in (G)
  • Click the English word walk on the left side of the ring (H)  to see all the verses in which the Greek lemma is translated walk in this specific Bible (I)

  • Rest the cursor on the  walk section of the ring that “flew out” (J)
  • Notice the pop-up of a Translation ring which shows all of the Greek lemmas translated walk in this specific Bible (K)
  • Click the word walk in the word count below the ring (L) to generate a Bible Word Study report for the English word walk (M)

  • Explore in the Greek Words section all of the Greek lemmas translated walk! (N)
