How to Tidy Up Your Logos Library

Recently, I received an e-mail from a seasoned Logos user who presented the following scenario:

I’ve been with Logos for many years and amassed numerous resources. As I surveyed my Library I realized some of these resources I may not use. Is there a way to remove them from my Library?

For various reasons you may find yourself in a similar situation. For example, perhaps you don’t read Latin, yet you discover you have Latin resources.

So the answer is yes and here’s how:

  • Drag the Library (book) icon to the center of the desktop to open your electronic bookshelf in its own panel that fills the screen
  • Click the View icon in the upper right of the Library (A)
  • Select Details view which displays your resources in a spreadsheet that’s easy to navigate (B)
  • Use a Rule in the Find box (C) and column headers (D) to locate the resource(s) you wish to remove

  • Select multiple resources by holding down the Ctrl key on a PC and Command key on a Mac and then clicking a resource (do not, however, click the title which opens the resource) (E)
  • Hold down the:
    • Ctrl key on a PC
    • Option key on a Mac
  • Right click (while holding down the above key) on a resource or multiple selected resources (F)
  • Select Hide this resource or Hide these resources for multiple selected resources (G)

Please note several things:

  • The removed resources (H) are placed in the Hidden Resources section at the bottom of Program Settings found on the Tools menu (I)
  • Hidden resources are immediately removed from your Library.
  • You can Unhide a resource using the Hidden Resources section in Program Settings to once again have it appear in the Library (J)

Comments

  1. When I select a resource or multiple resources to hide, I right click while holding the control key on my PC, the menu doesn’t have the hide option.
    It has the following
    Open
    Open in a floating window
    Search these resources
    Prioritize these resources
I don’t have the hide these resources.
How can I restore the hide option?

  2. To hide all the works that show up after you’ve typed the command on a PC (IE “lang:latin”) press Control and “a” and all items will be selected. Then, while pressing the “control” key, right click anywhere but on the titles of the books, and then release the “control” key. Then left click “hide resources.

I don’t have to individually select 263 titles that way!

  3. Is the ability to right click and “hide these resources” coming in the next update? I don’t have that option on my mac or pc.

    I’m on: 7.8 SR-1

  4. Scott Doherty says:

I have Logos 7 and followed your instructions exactly, but it does not give hide resource as an option.

  5. David Williams says:

Over the years I have downloaded the free book of the month. Now there are quite a number of them in my library. Is there a way to know what books have been added to my library the past year or two?

    • Jeff Moore says:

David, from your Home screen, click on your user id (right side of screen). That will take you to your LOGOS (Faithlife) account screen. The left side column has an option called “Orders”. That’s not a list of projects your wife wants done, its everything you added to your library.

  6. David Loo says:

I followed your instructions, but when the pop-up menu appeared, I see only two choices: “Search these resource” and “Prioritize these resources”. Where do I find “Hide these resources?” Thanks for your help.

  7. Virginia K Platt says:

When I right click, I do not have the hide option (G) in the illustration. Is this because I don’t have a high enough version of Logos 7? I have Logos 7 (full feature)

  8. Virginia K Platt says:

OOPS…mean to say Logos 7 Silver

  9. David Van Acker says:

Quick question: if I hide resources this way, will the built-in guides still be able to search them?
For example, if I hide a commentary series, will the Passage guide still show it under commentaries?

  10. Terry Hoese says:

Slow as molasses in January. It re indexes after each delete.

  11. Virginia Platt says:

Update: Got it work after re-reading the instructions and following them exactly. A great tip as I have tons of resources that I rarely, if ever use. Thank you for the tip!
