Our developers have been hard at working pushing out lots of little improvements and tweaks over the last few weeks. But there are also a number of cool features in the works. Some are already starting to trickle out. Just recently we added a new feature to the Passage Guide that we think you’ll enjoy. Now as you do your Bible study or sermon prep, you’ll see links to audio sermons on the passage you’re studying from SermonAudio.com, the largest database of free audio sermons on the web. The new section appears down at the bottom next to SermonCentral.com and PowerPointSermons.com, but you can move it up to the top or wherever you want.

Just click on the sermon title to launch the sermon in your browser, or click on the speaker’s name to see all of his sermons.

This new feature comes to you free of charge, and you don’t even have to do anything to get it. Just start up Logos 4, and run a Passage Guide. Best of all, the nearly 300,000 audio sermons from SermonAudio.com are completely free to play or download. What a wealth of sound, biblical preaching to listen to during your study or take with you on your MP3 player!

We realize that everyone is different, and some people don’t care to have audio sermons in the Passage Guide. That’s why we’ve made it so easy for you to customize the Passage Guide to suit your needs. Simply collapse the sections you don’t want to see, delete them from a particular guide, or remove them from all your guides by creating a custom Passage Guide and naming it “My Passage Guide” (via Guides > Make a new guide template).

There are plenty more cool features in the works. No matter when you buy, you’ll get all the latest improvements and features that we’re continually shipping. The Mark Driscoll Sermon Archive contains nearly ten years of preaching and teaching by Mark Driscoll, the Preaching and Theology Pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington.

In this massive archive, the transcriptions of his audio sermons preached at Mars Hill Church, which work through fifteen books of the Bible and cover scores of topical issues, and at well over one hundred conferences around the U.S. and world will be made available for reading, searching, and study. What Pastor Mark did not mention in the clip above was that he is a humble steward of his resources and is working on this project with us primarily to find a way to give his content away to the world for free.

Months ago he personally came up to our offices and has since spent much more time with us in his office, home, and on the phone to make this project a success. His ultimate goal was to find a way to partner with us so that in the end, the people who need the content and can’t afford it can get to it. In fact, he is personally working on proofing the transcriptions right now!

For about ten years, Pastor Mark has been archiving audio recordings of his sermons, but he had no text copy or transcripts. When we talked to Pastor Mark about it, he offered to trade the license to his content for the use of the transcripts on his website so the people around the world who can’t afford our materials could have his content on the web for free.

Pastor and Logos user Mark Barnes blogs about his process for preparing a sermon. His five steps are nicely alliterated:

1. Divide
2. Dissect
3. Discover
4. Digest
5. Disseminate

In his very helpful post, he shows how he makes use of Logos both in the dissecting and discovering steps. He uses the sentence diagramming tool to dissect the passage.

He also uses Logos to discover the meaning of the passage. In two very helpful videos (Logos Workspace [5:00] and Logos Workspace Options [4:59]), he shows you his workspace and how he puts it to use. I'd strongly encourage you to take the time to watch them both. They are full of excellent tips and tricks.

Not only does he lay out his process, but he also walks you through it with his sermon on Amos 2:4-16 and shares the final product in both PDF and audio. Be sure to check it out.
