Bring the Bible to Your Website—Free!

The New Reftagger Has Launched

Reftagger is a free tool that lets your web visitors instantly view a Bible passage by hovering over the Scripture reference. Instead of sending your readers off your site to check your Bible references, you can give them Scripture right where they are, in any translation you like.

It’s as simple as this: Gen. 1:1.

Why people love Reftagger

Some amazing sites—including The Gospel Coalition and Grace to You—are putting Reftagger to good use, and billions of references are already tagged online. We’re still receiving enthusiastic reviews from around the web:

“We love Reftagger. It not only saves our team tons of time by automatically linking Bible verses, but also gives readers a better experience on our site because they don’t have to leave the article to read the linked verses.” —TheResurgence.com

“Having experimented with each of the available Bible verse link programs out there, we have found Reftagger to be the most feature rich, stable, and easy to use.” —S. Michael Houdmann, CEO of GotQuestions.org

It’s better than ever—and still free!

As if there weren’t enough going for Reftagger, we’ve made it even better with a new site and some brand-new features: a new tooltip design with light and dark options, autosizing tooltips that let your readers see more Scripture without leaving your site, chapter-level tagging, social sharing, and more.

Whether you already love Reftagger or you’re trying it for the first time, head over to Reftagger.com, grab the new code, and start using it today!

Try the New Reftagger Beta!

Reftagger BetaIt’s been more than five years since Logos released Reftagger, the web tool that converts Bible references into links with hover-preview. Since then, it’s been installed on more than 13,000 websites and used to preview more than 20 billion verses. The newly updated Reftagger is even better. It’s coming very soon, but the beta is available now!

If you already have Reftagger installed, you already know how wonderful it is, and you can jump to the new version right now.

What does it do?

Reftagger automatically detects Scripture references and converts them into links to an online Bible. It even creates a preview when readers hover over the reference, so they don’t have to leave your website. The hover-preview also shows social icons, making it easier than ever for visitors to share Scripture.

How does it look?

It looks like this: 1 John 4:9. It works on verse ranges too, like this: 1 John 4:9–10. And it even handles a variety of reference formats, like I Jn. 4:9.

You can customize the colors, version, and sharing options to match your site, and the newly redesigned hover-preview looks great on websites of any style.

How does it work?

Paste the script into the footer of your website with JavaScript enabled, and voilà! All your Scripture references will be hyperlinked automatically.

Choose from two done-for-you themes—light or dark—or customize everything, including the background, text color, sharing options, and translation.

Grab the new script from the forums, and install it on your website today!

Create Custom Notifications on Logos.com

We’re adding new products to Logos.com every day. If you subscribe to the blog and a handful of email lists, you’ll probably hear about most of them. But we know that “probably” isn’t good enough—you want to be sure. Luckily, Logos.com has custom RSS feeds. Use them to set personal alerts for the products and product types you care about most.

Start at Logos.com/Products/Search. In the sidebar on the left, you’ll find 13 different ways to segment your library (a), such as topic, resource type, author, genre, and more. In the header, you’ll see a dropdown menu that invites you to sort your search results by seven different criteria (b), like price, title, and popularity.

rssfeeds1

Using these two features, you can access RSS feeds for the specific product types you care about. Here are some example alerts you could create:

Once you’ve created the search for which you’d like a custom alert, right-click the RSS icon in the header and copy the link’s address.

Paste the address into your RSS reader of choice—whenever we add a new product that fits your search parameters, you’ll be among the first to know.

6 Ways Faithlife Makes Small Groups Better

faithlife-churchesJoining a small group is simultaneously the most rewarding and the most challenging part of many people’s church experience. Those who make the jump to hosting a group find their rewards and challenges multiplied. We built the digital faith community at Faithlife.com to minimize the friction that makes small groups difficult, allowing you to focus on the rewards.

Here are six ways Faithlife makes small groups better:

1. Study together—Something powerful happens when a whole community rallies around a passage of Scripture. God highlights different facets of the passage for each of us; we learn best when we learn together. With dozens of reading plans to choose from, you’re sure to fine one for every season.

2. Pray for one another—Faithlife makes it possible to share what’s on your heart without venting to the whole world. Privacy controls let you dictate exactly who sees what you post, so your messages reach as far as you want—and no farther.

3. Plan events—When is the group meeting? Where? Who’s bringing food? The Faithlife calendar tool takes all the guesswork out of planning your small group meetings. Plan all your meetings in the calendar’s tab to avoid confusion, and add the calendar widget to the sidebar to be sure that everyone knows the plan.

4. Share notesCommunity Notes remain one of the best-loved features in the Faithlife Study Bible app, perhaps because it’s so easy to share your notes with your faith community on Faithlife. The Documents tab stores notes of all kinds, including study notes made in your Faithlife app, setlists from Proclaim, and much more. You can upload discussion questions ahead of time, or pass around handouts without killing trees.

5. Protect privacy—Faithlife offers three levels of involvement to every group member: member, follower, and observer. At the member level, users are fully visible, and can post to the group. At the follower level, users can’t post, but they can like member-posted content. At the observer level, users can watch what’s going on, but their personal information isn’t revealed to anyone else. (This can be very helpful for anonymous support groups.) Use these three levels to keep folks involved and protect their privacy.

6. Send newsletters—With this new feature, you can create and send group newsletters right from Faithlife.com. Look for this new feature on the Newsletters tab, and learn to use it on the Faithlife blog.

The best part: you get all these benefits for a grand total of $0. Faithlife.com is free—there’s no cost to create or join a group. And you can compound its value by accessing your Faithlife group through the Faithlife Study Bible app—the world’s largest, most powerful study Bible.

5 Free Ways to Share Your Faith Online

ShareimageSharing Scripture with friends and loved ones has never been so easy—and Logos is working to make it even easier.

Every morning we post Scripture art to a few of our Facebook pages. We’ve received quite a few requests to make these images available for sharing, reusing, or downloading. We even had one fan enter our photo contest with the help of our Verse of the Day images. Well, good news—there are plenty of ways to share this free art, as well as other social content.

Here are five free ways to share Scripture online:

1. Follow Logos on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, and Instagram.

  • Repost, tweet, +1, and pin Scripture art and verses to encourage your friends and followers.

2. Download images from our Facebook and Instagram profiles.

  • Save these as your Twitter backgrounds, and add them to your Flickr albums or other image galleries.

3. Use the free Verse of the Day plugin on your blog.

  • It works with WordPress and Blogger.

4. Set up a group in Faithlife, and enable the free Verse of the Day plugin for your group.

  • Faithlife groups now feature the Verse of the Day plugin in the right sidebar, along with your group’s reading plan.

5. Download free Facebook Timeline covers.

  • Visit Twibbon and choose between a few free Facebook Timeline covers. Then tweet and share Twibbon with your friends!

6. BONUS: use Twibbon to add the Logos emblem to your Facebook or Twitter photo. This lets you connect with other Logos users quickly and easily—you’ll know them by their profile pictures.

Organize Your Christian Community with Faithlife’s Calendars and Events

Faithlife’s latest update is a huge step forward for your online Christian community. With the addition of events and calendars, you can organize all your group outings, celebrations, and services, all in one place.

Create a Faithlife Event

I just set up an Apples to Apples board game tournament at church. Setting up the event was simple. I clicked the “New event” button (example) to get started and then picked a name for the event (example). When it comes to choosing an event type, there’s a dropdown menu with 19 choices, like:

  • Birthday party
  • Class
  • Confirmation
  • Lecture
  • Graduation
  • General

Once I had the event named and scheduled, I filled out some details for everyone who’d been invited (example). Then all I had to do was send out invites. I could invite entire groups or choose individuals from specific groups (example).

Create Group-Specific Events

Need to create an event for just one of your groups? Simply:

  1. Go to your Faithlife group
  2. Click the Calendar tab (example)
  3. Create a new calendar event (you can even set recurring events, such as church services, small groups, and Bible studies) (example)
  4. View your events either as a list or in calendar view (example)

How to Find a Bargain on Logos.com

There are definitely deals to be found on Logos.com. Here are some tips to ensure you don’t miss them.

Bid on Community Pricing Products

We often post on Logos Talk about deals that are available on Community Pricing because they’re some of the greatest bargains you are going to find on Logos.com.  The more people who bid on Community Pricing products, the lower the prices go. We’ve had collections sell for less than $10.

Puritan Sermons 1659–1689 (6 vols.) is a good example of the kinds of bargains you can find on Logos.com. The average bid for this six-volume collection of inspiring sermons, from the likes of John Owen and Richard Baxter, is $30. But it isn’t finished yet. With enough bids, the price can fall even lower!

Take a look at the Community Pricing page and see what’s available.

Check the Pre-Pub Page Often

Pre-Pubs are another way to get more book for your buck.

To justify the cost of developing a resource, we put that resource in Pre-Publication (or Pre-Pub). People vote on the resources they want to see developed by pledging to buy them while they are on Pre-Pub. Once we gather enough sales to pay for the creation of a resource, it moves from Pre-Pub into development.

During the Pre-Pub process, the resources are much cheaper than they will be once they are developed. The resources stay at that Pre-Pub price until they complete the development process. Once the resources are available for download, their price goes up.

It is a good idea to search the Pre-Pub page for the newest listings so that you can see when your favorite books go up. You’ll also want to check by ship date to make sure that you don’t miss out on getting a deal on a product that is about to ship.

Take Advantage of Faceted Browsing

Logos.com allows you to refine your search by a number of criteria. If you search the Products page for theology books sorted by price (lowest to highest), you are going to find all sorts of great deals. In fact, you might even run across some free resources. Try this with various topics and resource types.

Download Our Free Mobile Apps

I would be remiss not to mention Logos’ mobile apps. Both the iPhone app and the Android app (currently in beta) are completely free. With this free app you get over 40 Bibles! When you register or sign in to your free Logos account you get more than 30 additional books—absolutely free.

But that’s not all! You will not believe the Bible study you can do when you combine the iPhone app with a Logos 4 base package. Imagine having all of these features on your mobile device:*

  • Your resource library at your fingertips
  • Text comparison
  • Passage guides
  • Original language translations
  • Original language word studies
  • and much more!

At the low price of completely free, this is a true bargain.

*The Android app is currently in beta and, while it does have some great features, it has not yet reached parity with iPhone app.

3 New Scripture Sharing Plugins from Biblia.com

You want simple and intuitive tools to share Scripture on your blog or webpage, and Logos wants to help. To that end, we have created three new plugins at Biblia.com you can add to your webpage.

Verse of the Day

With the Verse of the Day plugin, visitors to your website or blog will be greeted with a carefully selected verse in the translation of your choice. You will see a unique verse displayed nearly every day for two years. Each verse has been selected by hand and verses are aligned to dozens of major and minor holidays.

You won’t have to worry about how the plugin will fit on your webpage. Verse of the Day is “Medium Rectangle” sized (300×250) making it the standard size of most Internet ads. You can choose it to be displayed as an attractive artist-created graphic or as textual graphic. If you choose the textual display you can also choose from a set palette of colors to match your personal web design.

Visitors can click a button on the plugin to tweet it, share it as a Facebook status, or even email it to someone else who could benefit. Clicking on the verse itself will take them to Biblia.com where they can see the verse in context or even read it alongside a commentary.

Bible Search Box

The Bible Search Box plugin allows visitors to search the Bible for words, topics, or references and see the results instantly in a new window or tab at Biblia.com. You can choose the Bible translation for searches and—if your visitors don’t have access to that translation—the Bible Search Box will complete their search in “Top English Bibles.” If you choose the “Default Version,” Biblia will conduct the search for them in an appropriate translation.

You can choose the smaller (160 x 80) or larger (300 x 135) search box from one of two colors which best suit your site layout.

Bible Search Results

Like the Bible Search Box, the Bible Search Results plugin allows visitors to search the Bible translation of your choice for words, topics, or references. Unlike the Bible Search Box however, the results are delivered instantly to your website via the plugin frame.

A search I did (with the plugin’s default Bible translation) for the word “testimony” returned twenty ESV verses within the frame. Simply pressing “more” took me to Biblia.com for the remainder of my search.

The plugin comes in a couple of colors with a smaller (160 x 200)  or larger (300 x 400) frame size.

All three plugins are easily installed by simply pasting the code into the <body> of your HTML page.

We know that you have created your blog or webpage because you have something valuable you want to communicate. Logos wants to help when it comes to sharing the life-changing truths of Scripture. Head over to Biblia.com/plugins and see which plugin is right for you.

And Don’t Forget Reftagger!

Never again will you have to worry about using too many Bible references in your blog post. Let visitors to your blog or webpage instantly view a Bible passage by hovering their mouse over any biblical reference. It’s easy to install and completely free. You can get all of the installation details by visiting Reftagger.com.

Is there a plugin here that you are excited about? Have a suggestion for a future Biblia.com plugin? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Find Your Favorites on Logos.com Landing Pages

SproulOne of the many great features of the new Logos.com is the improved searching capabilities. We’ve upgraded the search engine and provided a variety of categories which allow for several different browsing options. Even more, the new faceted browsing allows you to stack several product categories at once so you can find that specific book you’re looking for.
