When I primarily studied with print books, I normally spread them out on my desk and quite often “lost” resources as they became buried under others. Where is that commentary? I know it was here a minute ago. I’m sure you can relate.

If we’re not careful the same thing can happen with Logos. We get lost in study and pretty soon we have numerous Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries and the like, all scattered about on the Logos desktop. We may lose valuable study time with a cluttered desk.

Well, help is on the way. If you want to quickly clean up that messy desktop try this:

• Choose the Layouts menu
• Click one of the prearranged layouts (the light gray boxes) in the lower left of the menu

Please notice that Logos tries its best to organize your open resources, placing Bibles with Bibles, commentaries with commentaries, and so on. I only wish someone would do that with my print books on my desk!

As you read through Logos resources, you can “turn the pages” by using the Page Down key on the keyboard. If you’re like me though, sometimes it’s hard to find that little key or keep your finger on it as you move through a resource. Here’s a little trick I always use:

• Press the Spacebar which is the same as Page Down. I can always find that big key on the keyboard!
• Need to retrace your steps with Page Up? That’s simply Shift + Spacebar.

These simple shortcuts save me valuable time as I work my way through a resource.

On the File menu in Logos you can create all sorts of documents: Notes, Visual Filters, Prayer Lists, etc. After a while you will have a long list of documents on the File menu so finding the one you want to open may be challenging. Here is but one way among many to quickly open a document from the long list:

• Let’s say you created a Passage List called Adoption Verses
• In the Command box type Open Adoption
• Click Open Passage List named Adoption Verses from the drop down list of commands

The document opens without your ever having to go to the File menu!

At Tools | Program Settings you can tell Logos when to search for and download updates.  You can also initiate an update any time you like:

• Make sure you are connected to the internet
• Type Update Now in the Command box
• Press the Enter key
• A popup “window” indicates if an update has been found
• After the download completes, restart Logos to install the update

Remember to check your Logos Home Page for a description of any new features downloaded or a list of updated resources.
