Why You Haven’t Upgraded: 8 Questions Answered

SocialShare_612x612_4Logos 5 has been our most popular version ever, and thousands of customers have made the jump to the new software. But now, after August 5, upgrade discounts are ending.

Of course, it’s natural to have a lot of questions about upgrading your base package. It’s a big investment—both economically and educationally. We’ve heard questions as simple as “Which upgrade should I get?” and as complicated as “What dataset can help me find every place in the Bible where Jesus declares that he loves someone?

Since upgrade discounts are ending very soon, we wanted to address several important questions that you’ve maybe been wondering about. If, at any point while you’re reading this post, you want to upgrade, go to Logos.com/Upgrade to get your custom discount.

Let’s get started:

1: Is now really the best time to upgrade?

Short answer: yes. When we launched Logos 5, thousands of people were excited to get the new features and resources, and quickly upgraded to the new software. But, like me, many wanted to see how well Logos 5 performed before making the leap to the next level. Now, more than a year after launch, Logos 5 is our most acclaimed version ever!

Act quickly—the Logos 5 upgrade sale discounts are coming to an end. Upgrade discounts end August 5!

2: What does a dataset really do?

The secret sauce behind Logos 5 is Logos’ new datasets. If you’re using a previous version of Logos (or the free Logos 5 engine), you’re missing out on these powerful tools. Datasets make studying the Bible both quicker and more interactive.

Let’s say you’re doing a search in the Bible for how many times Jesus heals. Traditionally, you’d have to do several individual searches to get this information, and you’d miss every time Jesus is mentioned by a pseudonym like teacher, him, or rabbi. With Logos 5′s Clause Search, though, you can find answers in a matter of seconds. Imagine what types of study you could do, and what you could do with the time you save!

Take a look at the rest of Logos 5′s datasets and features to see how they could improve the way you study, teach, and share information about the Bible.

3: Do I really need more books?

Before you upgrade to a larger library, you might have questions. “I already have the books I want; why would I get more?” “What’s the point of having more resources?” Having more books isn’t necessarily about the books you use every time; it’s about the power of a networked library of resources.

More books means more connections between your books. You’ll find authors who share your same understanding, and you’ll also find authors with completely different views. You’ll benefit from resources that make your datasets more powerful, and you’ll understand more with illustrations that show the text from new angles.

In the end, more books equals more learning.

4: Am I going to lose the books I already own?

You’ve purchased several resources in Logos. Maybe you even own a previous base package. Will you lose your resources when you upgrade?

Definitely not!

When you buy a book in Logos, you buy the license to that book, and the license is yours forever. That means that when you upgrade to Logos 5, you keep everything you already own.

In fact, you’ll even get a custom discount based on your current library. That way you never pay for the same book twice.

5: I got the free update to Logos 5; isn’t that the same thing as an upgrade?

This is one of the most common questions about Logos 5. The answer is important: there’s a big difference between getting the free update and upgrading to Logos 5.

The free update is just the engine, without any resources or datasets—it’s missing all the tools that make Logos 5 powerful. You won’t have access to things like the Timeline or Clause Search, and you’ll miss out on the key resources that connect these datasets.

When you upgrade, you get the full experience. In a lot of ways, Logos 5 is like a car. If you don’t have fuel in the engine, the car won’t do what it’s intended. You can think of Logos 5′s datasets and resources as that fuel. Without them, you’re not using Logos to its full potential.

6: Which upgrade should I get?

Selecting the right upgrade can be tough. There are many levels of base packages, and you might have a very specific type of study you want to do. Which dataset would you benefit from most? Which resources would be best for your small group? What if you’re a pastor—which base package is best?

Our Logos 5 specialists want to hear these questions, help you pick the package that’s best for you, and get you the best possible deal on an upgrade. Call them today at 888-875-9491!

7: What if I don’t like the resource selection in an upgrade?

You understand the value of having a larger library, but maybe, despite the large savings, the resources in a given upgrade aren’t exactly what you’re looking for. Good news—you now have more options to choose from!

Over the past four months, we’ve released Reformed, Anglican, Lutheran, and Seventh-day Adventist base packages! Each gives you Logos 5′s main datasets, along with a resource selection built specifically for your tradition of choice.

Comments

  1. $$$$$$$$$$$ That's why.

  2. Jim Confer says:

    You tell em', Mike!

  3. … because I only just upgraded from Logos 4 Leader's Library Gold to Logos 5 Gold ten months ago!

  4. Stephen Josie says:

Money is the main reason, secondly, the overwhelming # or resources (esp. language tools) which I will never use. I wish there was a way to simply get the clause search engine without all of the other resources.

  5. Dennis Watkins says:

3% discount, no disrespect but really?

  6. $$$ and cash flow. Being retired with a limited fixed income, even $60.00 / month is way to much.
Maybe if the monthly amount was extended across a longer term. Like say $30.00/Mth payed monthly or fortnightly along with a student / pensioner discount, more people would sign up.

  7. Kevin Moore says:

I would love to upgrade to the Gold base package, but I simply cannot afford it, even with a payment plan. The only reason I have what I do with the Bronze package is that it was a gift. I have added to it piecemeal, but even then some of the resources I would love to have access to are simply priced too high.

I’m not saying that the packages or resources are not worth the price. Between copyrights, coding, etc, I’m pretty sure it’s an expensive product to produce. And I also know Logos is in the business to make money, it has to be, otherwise you wouldn’t have the finances to pay salaries and produce this product. I just wish I could afford more.

  8. George Dixon hit it for me. Retired on fixed income and not one of the "new" resources that an upgrade would add is something I must have. I'd consider just an upgrade for my existing resources if the price was 1/5th what you are asking.

  9. I think Stephen Josie said it well. It is just too much money. I would love to utilize the data set upgrade but many of the attached resources, I would never use.
