Logos 4: Quickly Preview Different Bibles

Today’s post is from Morris Proctor, certified and authorized trainer for Logos Bible Software. Morris has trained thousands of Logos users at his two-day Camp Logos seminars and provides many training materials.

mp|seminars Tips

We of course have our favorite Bible as we read and study the Scripture: ESV, NASB, KJV, etc. It’s always a good idea, however, to read a passage in multiple versions. If we’re reading in the ESV, seeing how the NKJV translates the same passage may help us understand the text a little better. Here’s a very quick way to see other Bibles as you read in your preferred Bible:

  • Open a Bible to a passage like the Christmas story in Luke 2:1
  • Press the F7 key on the keyboard (if you’re a Mac user you’ll probably also need to hold down the fn key)

What appears on the screen is a preview of Text Comparison which is located on the Tools menu. This popup preview, using the prioritized Bibles as set in the Library, displays as many Bibles as you have room for on the screen!

If you’d like to see a range of verses in the preview, simply type that range in the reference box of the Bible. For example type Luke 2:1-10 in the box and then press F7 (Mac user don’t forget the fn key) and watch what happens!

Proclaim Beta Free through January 1!

A free beta of Proclaim is now available! Logos has just released the newest church presentation software on market and made it free to use for your church through New Year’s Day 2012.

Download it now or go to the Proclaim website for more details.

What Is Proclaim?

Proclaim is church presentation software which is going to change the way pastors, worship leaders, and other ministry partners put together a presentation.

With this newly developed, cloud-based software, your weekly presentations are available online for contributions from every member of your team. This fully collaborative worship solution allows pastors, worship leaders, church admins, and other team members to access and edit the presentation throughout the week.

Because your presentation is online, you can access or present from any internet connected computer. Your presentations are fully cached on your computer once they are opened, so even if you lose internet connection during the service, your presentation will not be affected.

Proclaim connects directly to your CCLI Song Select account to easily pull in song lyrics. There is no more going out to the internet to copy and paste lyrics hoping they are correct. Simply connect your Song Select account and type the song name, and Proclaim takes care of the rest.

You’re going to find that Proclaim is:

Go to ProclaimOnline.com for information, screenshots, and to download your free Proclaim beta.

Downloading Proclaim

Once you download Proclaim, you will be prompted to:

  • Set up a new group—Simply create a group with a name which is specific to your church or worship team. At this point, you can invite others into the group using their email addresses or they can download Proclaim and find your group by name.
  • Enter any pertinent account information—Here is where you would enter in your CCLI Song Select or Graceway Media account.
  • Purchase an “On Air” license—Your “On Air” license allows your Proclaim presentations to be exhibited. You can purchase your “On Air” license at any time during the beta period and take advantage of introductory pricing. If you do purchase an “On Air” license, you will not be billed until the end of the beta period.
  • Start creating your first presentation.

When putting together your presentations, you can subscribe to content from Graceway Media, purchase content à la carte from within Proclaim, or upload your own media and backgrounds. Do you want to see what in-store media will look like in your presentation? All you have to do is add the media and preview the presentation to see it in context before purchasing. Between the background images, smart media, and video loops available in the store, you are sure to find the right creative elements for your service. As a bonus, you will find some free media to use in Proclaim during the free beta period.

A Note for Logos 4 Users

With Proclaim, pastors can send their Scripture and teaching illustrations directly from within Logos 4. Incorporating content from Logos 4 is as easy as right clicking on an image or verse and hitting “Send To Proclaim.” Your content will automatically post when you have Proclaim running and open in the background.

So, download Proclaim today and enjoy it for free during beta period, follow Proclaim on Facebook and Twitter, and then join the discussion with other users in our Proclaim Forum.

Sign Up Now to Earn Logos.com Credit through December!

Hopefully you’ve already checked out all our great Christmas specials and learned about your opportunity to get rewarded through our Logos.com credit offer.

Don’t miss out on earning Logos.com credit this month! Sign up for our Christmas Credit email list, spend at least $10 between Dec. 1, 2011 and Jan. 2, 2012, and at the end of the promotion you’ll earn between 15% and 50% of your total qualifying spending in Logos.com credit. See the details now!

Before we get too far into the promotion, we want to make it clear that you must sign up to the offer by signing up to our Logos Credit Christmas promotion mailing list. Here are fours ways to either sign up or verify that you’ve already signed up:

1. Check Your User Notifications Tab

The best way to verify you are signed up is to make sure there is a check next to Christmas on your user notifications list. If there is a checked box, you’re in. Check by going to Logos.com/user/notifications.

You will be prompted to log into your Logos.com account. Once you are logged in, it should look like:

If the box is not already checked, be sure to do so right away so your December orders start earning you Logos credit. Click Update in the top right to save the change. If you’ve already placed orders this month, but are just now signing up, don’t worry. Once you sign up, all your orders, retroactive to December 1, 2011, will be added to your earnings.

2. Get the Confirmation Screen During Sign Up

This method provides you with confirmation immediately after clicking the orange SIGN UP button (below). You will see an intermediary page where you will click the “OK” button. The page looks like this:

Once you click “OK”, you’ll be redirected to our Christmas specials page.

3. Email Confirmation

Once you opt-in from the step above (#2), you will then get a confirmation email to further verify that you have been added to the Christmas mailing list. Check your inbox for a “Registration Successful! Logos Cash Christmas Promotion‏” notification.

4. Give Us a Call

If you’re ready to start earning credit—but you have a few questions about a collection or about which base package is right for you—give our sales department a call. They will provide the answers you need, let you know if the items are currently discounted, and during the checkout process, they’ll be sure you are signed up to earn Logos.com credit.

Earn Logos.com Credit with Your Holiday Purchases!

With the annual 12 Days of Logos sale and 15% off all base packages, you can save big this Christmas on Logos.com!  But did you know that your qualifying purchases—made between December 1, 2011 and January 2, 2012—will count toward Logos.com credit? That’s right! Not only can you save money now, you can also earn Logos.com credit to spend later.

Sign Up for Christmas Credit!

You need to sign up to qualify for this promotion. So the first thing you want to do is head to the 2011 Christmas page and enter your email address to sign up. At the end of the promotion, all qualifying purchases made with the associated email address will be totaled and we will credit the appropriate amount of Logos.com credit to your account.

Don’t worry. If you made a huge purchase earlier this month but hadn’t opted into the promotion yet, you can still get credit for that purchase. As long as you sign up by the end of the promotion (January 2, 2012), every qualifying purchase made during the promotion period (December 1, 2011 through January 2, 2012) will be credited to your account!

How Does Christmas Credit Work?

The total amount of your qualifying purchases made during the promotional period (before taxes and shipping) will place you in 1 of 5 tiers. Each tier offers a percentage of your total spending in Logos.com credit (the percentage increases as your total spending increases). The credit you earn is determined by the price bracket you fall into at the end of the promotion.

  • Spend $10 to $99.99 on qualifying products, and you’ll get 15% of your total in Logos.com credit (up to $15).
  • Spend $100 to $499.99 on qualifying products, and you’ll get 20% of your total in Logos.com credit (up to $100).
  • Spend $500 to $999.99 on qualifying products, and you’ll get 25% of your total in Logos.com credit (up to $250).
  • Spend $1,000 to $2,499.99 on qualifying products, and you’ll get 30% of your total in Logos.com credit (up to $750).
  • Spend $2,500 to $4,999.99 on qualifying products, and you’ll get 40% of your total in Logos.com credit (up to $2000).
  • Spend $5,000 or more on qualifying products, and we’ll match 50% of your total in Logos.com credit (there’s no cap to the amount you can earn)!

Shortly after the promotion ends, you will receive your Logos.com credit based on the amount of your qualifying purchases. You can then use your Logos.com credit—which never expires—toward any live products!

What About Payment Plans?

With a Logos Payment plan, you can stretch out your payments for up to 12 months. Did you know that with the Christmas Credit promotion, not only can you use our interest free payment plan, but qualifying purchases can also earn you Logos.credit?

This means you could purchase Portfolio at 15% off (all of our base packages are on sale through January 2), spread those payments out for 12 months, and then receive $1,458.60 in Logos.com credit! That’s enough credit to purchase the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary (44 vols.)  and still have nearly $400 to spend on more great resources!

How Christmas Credit Works

The total amount you spend this season will place you in one of five tiers. Each tier offers to match a percentage of your qualifying total spending in Logos.com credit—the more you spend the higher percentage you’ll earn!

  • Spend $10 to $99.99 on qualifying products, and you’ll get 15% of your total in Logos.com credit (up to $15).

Shortly after January 2, you’ll receive your Logos.com credit based on the tier you qualify for.

Here’s an example: if you spend $1,260 on qualifying products in the month of December, you will earn 30% of that in Logos.com credit. After the promotion ends, you’ll receive $378 in Logos.com credit to spend whenever you want on Logos.com products (some restrictions apply; see the details).

Logos 4: Search Highlighting Styles

Today’s post is from Morris Proctor, certified and authorized trainer for Logos Bible Software. Morris has trained thousands of Logos users at his two-day Camp Logos seminars and provides many training materials.

mp|seminars Tips

If you’re like I am you can relate to this scenario:

We read a print book highlighting the main points in blue as we go. After completing the book, we ask ourselves, Now where was that insight the author gave about obeying God? So we flip back through the book only looking at the highlights until we locate the desired information.

Here’s how to replicate this search in Logos:

To highlight text in a resource:

  • Open a Logos book such as Biblical Ethics by Oswald Chambers
  • Choose Tools | Highlighting to open the Highlighting pane
  • Select text in the book that you want to highlight
  • Click a Highlighting style such as the Blue Highlighter pen
  • Continue highlighting as you read the book

To search highlighted text in a resource:

  • Open the book to be searched such as Biblical Ethics
  • Open the Search panel
  • Select Basic as the search type
  • Select Biblical Ethics from the resource(s) to be searched drop down list
  • Click the list first drop down list which is the text to be searched (which probably says All Text)
  • Click the arrow next to a highlighting palette such as Highlighter Pens
  • Click a specific highlighting style such as Blue Highlighter (you have just limited the search range to the blue highlights in Biblical Ethics)
  • Click outside the drop down list to close it
  • Enter the a search query in the search panel’s Find box
  • Press the Enter key to generate the search results

Each time you highlight something in a resource, that highlighting style becomes a search field that can be searched. Please note that the highlighting styles do not appear in the text to be searched drop down list until after you use that specific style to highlight the resource. You can use these steps for any type of resource: Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, etc!

This search technique is but one of many powerful features covered in detail in the soon to be released Camp Logos 2 Live DVD training series, which is set to ship next week!

NIV Now on iPhone, iPad, Android, and Biblia.com

We recently reached a new agreement with Zondervan to make the NIV available on the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps. This is big news: the world’s most popular Bible translation since the King James Version is now available on the most advanced tool for Bible study on mobile devices and tablets.

How to Get the NIV on Your iPhone, iPad, or Android Device

If you have Bible Study Library or higher, then there’s nothing extra you need to do to get the NIV. You already own it. You can access it on your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or Biblia.com right now.

If you own Christian Home Library, or you don’t own a base package, you’ll need to download the NIV. But keep in mind that it’s a much better idea to get the NIV as part of a base package. For example, if you upgrade from Christian Home Library to Bible Study Library, you’ll get the NIV, plus almost 200 additional resources—all for around $115. Otherwise, you would pay $26.95 for just the NIV. As you can see, getting the NIV as part of a base package is the way to go. (Note that these prices are current as of December 2, 2011.)

More Than an Ebook

With the Logos app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet, the NIV is fully integrated with the most powerful digital library available anywhere for Bible study.

Logos mobile apps equip the NIV with reading plans, searching, word studies, and other features. With the app, any Bible reference in any book in your library can be set to link back to the NIV. This seamless integration makes reading the Logos app the optimal mobile platform for reading and studying the NIV.

If you don’t have the Logos app for your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet yet, download it now!

Perseus and the Greek Background of the New Testament

On September 30 we released over 1,700 free books in the seven Perseus collections. With all the collections available for free download, a lot of people are asking “How can I use Perseus for Bible study?”

Dr. David Instone-Brewer, Senior Research Fellow in Rabbinics and the New Testament for Tyndale House, recently published an informative article on the combined efficacy of Perseus and Logos 4 in studying the Greek context of the New Testament.

“The combination in Logos of the Perseus material and the Duke Databank of Papyri makes this Logos collection more useful for NT research than any other collection of Greek literature,” says Dr. Instone-Brewer. “In my opinion, the Logos implementation of Perseus is now the best tool available for studying classical Greek background of the Bible.”

In the article, Dr. Instone-Brewer digs into the submission of women in the New Testament, and how to study this topic using Scripture alongside Greek classical literature from the Perseus collections.

The Perseus Collections are free, so if you haven’t downloaded them yet, download all seven collections today!

Do you have a favorite resource in the Perseus Collections? Leave us a comment and let us know which one and what you like about it!
