Logos Bible Software 4.2 for Windows Now Shipping

A new version of Logos Bible Software for Windows began shipping on Monday, December 6. Version 4.2 is the sixth major update since we launched Logos 4 last year. Like all previous updates, version 4.2 is a free download for all Logos 4 Windows users.

How Do You Get It?

If you have automatic updating enabled (screenshot), which is the default setting, Logos 4 will notify you that updates are ready to be installed. When you see the balloon tooltip window, right-click on the Logos icon in your system tray and choose to “Install update” (screenshot). If Logos 4 hasn’t downloaded the update by the end of the day, type Update Now into the Command Bar (screenshot). This will force Logos 4 to check for any available updates (screenshot) and begin downloading them.

What’s New in Logos 4.2?

Version 4.2 brings a number of important new features—many of which are in direct response to your requests. Here are the major ones:

  • Column “Paged” View
“Show paged view” panel menu option available to toggle paged mode on or off (or Ctrl+Shift+P). “Show paged view” will display more than one column, depending on the width of the panel (scrollbars removed).
  • “Last Updated” date for resources
Added a column that will display the “Last Updated” date for a resource. (Right-click on a column header to view list and select Last Updated.) This column will initially populate with the current date. In the future, whenever a resource file is discovered (new file or new version of an existing file), Last Updated will reflect that new date.
  • Added “Passage Guide” to Smart Tag menu
  • Added “Import Syntax Searches” and “Import Delete Syntax Searches” commands.

There were also some nice little improvements made to Printing export, Biblical People/Places/Things, Text Comparison, Prayer Lists, and Notes—just to name a few.

Time to Upgrade to Logos 4?

Are you still running Logos 3 (or the old Logos Library System!)? If so, now would be a great time to upgrade to Logos 4. Not only has Logos 4 improved significantly over the last eleven months, but we’re currently having great discounts on base packages and base package upgrades. And we’re far from done improving Logos 4.To see some of what’s coming, check out the list of additional features we plan to add.

Hi! I was wondering if users have noticed problem with indexing following the 4.2 update? Logos 4 seemed to be running fine, but the indexer seemed to crash every time. If so, is there a fix for this? Thanks for your help.

A big thank you to the programers who tweeked my request to allow the icons on the home page quick links for layouts and weblinks to be changed as the were in Logos 3. Now I can easily distinquish between my Pericope layouts for working on sermons a month ahead of time for weeks 1,2,3,4 instead of all of them having the same icon. But….I wish you would complete the request and allow us to change the icon using our own collections. I have a few saved icons that would identify some web links from Logos 3 that I still cannot use.

Open up your library, then right click on the title bar (the bar that has the headings “Title”, “Author”, “Type” (etc.), and a box will open up that allows you to choose which characteristics to display for your library entries. Click on “Last Updated” to activate. You can then rearrange these category headings into whatever you want; just click and drag them if you so desire.

    eldkelley asked:
    >””Last Updated” date for resources
    >Added a column that will display…”
    >Where is this column or how do I access it?
This column is available in the library pane. In the details view, right click on any of the column names and you see a selector that lets you choose which columns appear. “Last Updated” should be at the bottom. If you select it, it will appear as the rightmost column in the library pane.
I’m very pleased with this feature…thanks for adding it!

That is actually in Beta right now. Look for that update to be released in January or February.

Great Update… Is there a revised list of Logos 3 features that are still pending upgrade into Logos 4 and schedule … Like Video and audio capabilities for example… would love to retire Logos 3 still having to maintain both releases…

What would it take to obtain a hard copy of this. It is about time for me to reload my home desktop machine, and it would be faster to reinstall my fully registered copy by dvd versus using dsl (home isp access) and bog down my connection.

Indexing problem is fixed now, thanks to those contributing the fix. As Eddie suggested, Deleted the resource files and all files in the downloaded folder. Started Logos and let it redownload.
After indexing failed, deleted the ResourceManager.db file
    Started Logos and indexed fine.
Btw, I absolutely loved the new column layout for reading the individual books. It makes reading so much more enjoyable. Thanks Logos team!

There is a list of Missing Features on the website with a general timeline.

We do have the Media Only discs available.
The 4.2 discs should be available in January.

Looking at the Missing Features list the intention was to have that available in the fourth quarter update. It is definitely on the list to be included ASAP.

Check out our free iPhone app. It offers a lot of the Logos 4 functionality and, if you are already a Logos 4 user, allows you access to many of your books by signing in with your account.
If you are not a Logos 4 user, the app comes with free Bibles and a host of free books when you sign up for a Logos account.
