Logos 4: Keeping the Home Page Closed

mp|seminars Tips

Today’s post is from Morris Proctor, certified and authorized trainer for Logos Bible Software. Morris has trained thousands of Logos users at his two-day Camp Logos training seminars.

By default, Logos 4 starts with the Home Page showing. This “newspaper-like” panecontains links to interesting articles, blogs, daily devotionals, and more. After reading through”Logos Today”you probably close it so you can move into more Bible study. Have you noticed that the Home Page then reopens each time you clear the screen by closing all the panels? You may or may not like this feature. You can easily change this default:

  • Click Customize in the lower left hand corner of the Home Page
  • Uncheck the box Show home page at startup

Now when you close all the panels on the screen, the Home Page will not reopen. Anytime you want the Home Page, just click the Home icon.

Thank you for your help in re-installation.
It is strange how I lost the original installation.
    Thanks Bill

  2. Louis Coe says:

The Logos indexer runs and uses up all my available ram so everything else on my computer runs slowly if at all. What can I do?

  3. Hi Louis,
The best thing to do is to allow Logos 4 to index at a time where you do not need to use the computer for any other heavy tasks. If possible, start index right before you go to bed as it can take several hours depending on the size of your library.
To pause indexing for a more convenient time, right click the Logos icon and in your system tray and select Pause indexing for four hours. For more information on indexing, read this article on Indexing.

I like the newspaper look. I think it is good and it also allows you to delve into the many books that are available in ones’ library. The tidbits are enough to get you started in another direction keeping what you are there for from becoming mundane. Placing an optional link to allow one to go directly into the manuscript to get more of the information instead of creating their own new search would be a great addition.

  5. Hi James. Thanks for the comment and we’re glad you are enjoying Logos 4. I’m not sure if this is what you mean, but you can add a shortcut link to resources by dragging the title of a book to the shortcut bar (the grey area just to the right of the Command bar). Hope that helps.

  6. Everything in the home page pops up in random locations. Id like to be able to organize it, for example: the Welcome message would pop up first. Ive tried reselecting everything from the custumize tab, but all the topics still show up in random locations.

  7. Ryan,
I went to the forum and got many pages of hits for customizing the homepage. You should check it out!
